During harvest, we work around the clock to ensure the fruit is picked when the grapes have reached optimal ripeness. The cooling maritime influence and afternoon breezes from the Monterey Bay account for longer hang time in the vineyard. This means our grapes ripen more slowly and evenly, resulting in vibrant fruit, complex flavors and excellent structure. We also focus on harvesting when it’s not too hot, which means many late nights and early mornings in our vineyards. Harvesting grapes at night when it’s cool helps keep sugar levels stable.
Water is one of Monterey’s most precious resources. With so much of the County’s land devoted to agriculture, it is essential that we utilize tools and methods to minimize usage. All our estate vineyards feature 100% drip irrigation equipped with technology that senses soil moisture and monitors plant stress. By carefully dispensing water on a vine-by-vine basis, we have been able to dramatically reduce our water use. Additional sustainability efforts include planting cover crops between rows that improve soil health and prevent erosion, utilizing low-impact farming methods such as spreading recycled compost of grape pomace, stems and seeds, and applying herbal-based preparations for pest management. During harvest, we reap the benefits of these collected efforts.
It takes a large team to craft and distribute our wines, including particularly long hours from our vineyard and winemaking teams during harvest. No company can be great without great people, and the tremendous commitment and work ethic of our entire team makes them one of the most valuable assets of our company. From grapes to glass, the process never ends.
We are a unique winegrowing region—our climate and soils are different from any other terroir on earth. We are grateful to be good stewards of our land and are proud to share authentic wines that tell our story. Monterey County is a good place to call home.
The delicious result of our harvest efforts are five award-winning District 7 varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Noir Rosé and Sauvignon Blanc. Complete your Thanksgiving table with wines to pair with your feast. Your family and friends will thank you. Raising our glasses in gratitude of the season. Cheers!
